Owner Michel Gauthier started handling a chainsaw at the age of twelve and has been felling trees for family and friends since he was a young teenager. In 2006 Michel and his wife Valérie bought their dream home on a private wooded property in the Larose Forest. Since that day they have been watching the forest evolve throughout the seasons, taking time to prune trees that need a little extra help, cleaning up some sections and leaving others to grow wild, cutting their firewood, you name it. The forest is now a part of their day to day life.
With the Derecho that hit Eastern Ontario May 21, 2022, Computer Scientist Michel and his wife Valérie threw their chainsaws in the back of the truck and started looking for people that needed help with tree clearing. For Michel, this became a passion. Seeing people’s faces when the seemingly insurmountable amounts of tree damage was cleaned up and the many friends made along the way. By September 2022 a few people suggested that it might be a good idea to start a business and do this professionally. It was obvious that Michel loved the work. So, with the help of Valérie and a few friends, StormWood Services was born.
The logo is an outline of the very first tree felled by StormWood Services as a registerred company. The story of this tree is interesting: The owners had a love/hate relationship with this odd looking 60 year old white pine they affectionately called the Celery Tree. Saddened to see it go with all the memories it held, it posed too great a threat to their home to not to get it cut down. With their blessing, it then became the StormWood Services logo, so that it could live on in another form. The clients did receive the first business card.
